Terrorism: What Obama Doesn't Get

Forget swine flu. Does anyone remember the number one threat to our country's safety? Anyone? Anyone? Terrorism. Unfortunately, our great leader has decided that terrorism is dead and that in turn will probably kill a lot of Americans in the not-so-distant future. Now, I know you're wondering what depression-inducing drugs I've taken lately and I assure that I'm not trying to be the voice of doom and gloom but you really have to look at the past 100 days as well as the years since 9/11 and think about it. Take a look back and remember where you were on 9/11 and what kind of American you were on 9/12. I bet your patriotism grew like it never had before in the aftermath of such a tragedy. Our country changed both individually and on a government level. Say what you want about Dubya, but his administration moved into action to detain suspected terrorists, obtain information and save more lives. His administration also joined forces with other nations to combat terrorism. Great Britain is one of our best resources when it comes to dealing with terrorism. Why? Because Britain has been dealing with terrorism on its own soil for centuries. Examples: Scotland (Braveheart), and in recent centuries, Ireland (the IRA)--just to name a couple. Britain is no stranger to terrorists that want them dead for no reason. My last semester in school as part of my minor, I took a criminal justice class about terrorism. One of our lecturers was a member of British special forces on loan from Britain to the FBI's joint terrorism task force in Northern Utah. The information he imparted about how Britain deals with terrorism was fascinating (I wish I knew where the notes from that class were). First, because terrorism is nothing new to that country, the government allows them to detain suspected terrorists (with just probable cause) and hold them in local jails until an investigation has been completed. This could be hours, days or weeks. But, the point is that if someone is suspected of being a terrorist, the government allows law enforcement to investigate to either confirm or dispel possibility of terrorism. Britain also has its share of Al Quaeda cells in addition to "domestic" terrorists like the IRA. One thing this lecturer said that I found interesting was the fact that the IRA wasn't about religion so much anymore. The IRA is about drugs, money, and money obtained for training other terrorist organizations throughout the world. But that still doesn't stop them from blowing up school busses of children who happen to be the wrong religion. When a known terrorist acts or commences to perpetrate an act of terrorism, British special forces employs a very effective concept call "complete neutralization". What is it, you ask? Let me put it this way: if your ammo clip has not been completely emptied into the terrorist, your commanding officer is going to want to know why. Any other questions about complete neutralization? I didn't think so. So all of this sounds peachy and the U.S. should do the same things with investigation and neutralization, right? Well, you have to remember as the lecturer reminded us that the same laws of the Constitution that protect the good people also protect the bad. He wasn't belittling the Constitution or American laws but telling us that British laws are a little different and allow for different things. The purpose of the JTTF was not only to share intel about suspected cells between nations but to provide valuable training information between nations on dealing with terrorism. In case you are wondering, the last I heard, the JTTF in northern Utah was disbanded and to be fair, I'm not sure whether that was under the current administration or the last one. But all of this brings me to my point: we are no safer today (after the great one's first 100 days in office) than we were on 9/10/01. What Obama doesn't get is that there are people out there that want to destroy our nation. But he won't let us call them "terrorists" anymore or refer to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as the "war on terror". (Personally, I don't think this could be more of a slap in the face to those who sacrificed their lives fighting the war on terror and a slap in the face to the families who not only lost loved ones there but have had to be without their fathers, brothers, and husbands for long periods of time to fight terrorism). Despite the warnings of 4 former and present CIA directors, information has been released regarding interrogation techniques that will-if it hasn't already-undermine the very forces that work so hard everyday to keep this nation safe from terrorism. Obama has also alienated our best ally against terrorism because of a personal grudge. Obama hates Great Britain because his grandfather was part of a rebellion in Kenya that was suppressed by Britain under the premiership of Churchill. So you thought all the crappy gifts to British dignitaries was just because he's an idiot? No, he actually has a grudge against Great Britain. So he has burned that bridge, so to speak, of having a strong ally that could actually be a great help to us in fighting terrorism. He has also decided that a veteran returning from Iraq or Afghanistan is a potential domestic terrorist. So it's ok to call a soldier who has returned from fighting for his country a potential terrorist but it's not ok to call someone who actually is a terrorist a terrorist. It's like Glenn Beck says, it's enough to make blood shoot out your eyes. It dawned on me the other day that our president does not have our back when it comes to national security. It's interesting that he wants to be more accommodating to foreign terrorists (who just happen to be of middle-eastern persuasion) than to our own veterans. (Anyone remember that flack a while back about vets paying for their own health care)? Barack HUSSEIN Obama is a terrorist sympathizer. Plain and simple. So what do we do? We support the leaders of our nation that do have an interest in national security, we keep the patriotism that we had on 9/12, and we do as Joe Foot-In-Mouth Biden accused us of: cling to our religion and our families (but I think it's ok to throw a gun in there, too). Let not your heart be troubled: cling to your family, your religion and be prepared with your 72 hour kits and your food storage.
